When you hear the students from the Faculty of Medicine enthusiastically talk about the teacher of the year, Ludvig Johan Torp Rasmussen, Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Science and Technology, it bears no resemblance to traditional lectures. Creative, varying, exciting, entertaining, alternative and spontaneous – such adjectives abound in the impressive statements from the students about Ludvig's teaching in Sports Science.

In their nomination, the students also highlight an elective option for sports science students where Ludvig Johan Torp Rasmussen has introduced innovative design workshops partnering with start-ups, companies and public institutions in the sports science and health sector. Students thus can gain insight into the issues occupying minds outside the university walls.

In the last few years, I’ve focused a lot on moving away from the teacher-centred cinema format in lectures and instead using a series of different group-based and student-driven teaching activities that create an active, dynamic and safe environment where students want to engage and are not afraid to make mistakes, Ludvig Johan Torp Rasmussen says.

- I’m delighted that the students appreciate my efforts and that they enjoy being challenged with all kinds of more or less unconventional learning activities.

- I owe a big thank you to my colleagues in Sports Science. We spend a lot of time developing teaching and generally discussing what characterizes good teaching. I’ve also started to discuss these things with the students so they understand why they can't just expect a lecture to be listening to me for an hour and a half. Along with my colleagues, I put a lot of effort into creating a profile that makes the students attractive graduates for entering the sports science and health sector. And this requires a great deal of student involvement and activation in teaching.

Ludvig Johan Torp Rasmussen was selected by the Study Board for Sports Science and Public Health and is now a candidate for ‘Teacher of the Year at AAU’, which is announced at AAU's annual celebration.

Other teaching staff also honoured

The Study Board for Health and Technology chose Professor Birthe Dinesen as their favourite teacher, and Associate Professor Hiva Alipour was chosen by the Study Board for Medicine.
