The circle is complete, one is tempted to say, when Mads Bang once again crosses the threshold of Aalborg University (AAU) as the new full-time Innovation Director. This takes place on 1 August 2023.

He holds an MSc in Engineering, an Industrial PhD and an MBA from AAU. His research on fuel cells in particular has resulted in successful spin-out companies, including SerEnergy, which with more than 100 employees was sold in 2018. Since then, he has helped establish the company Blue World Technologies, which he is now leaving to become innovation director.

- I'm really looking forward to it. AAU is already known for its strong collaboration with Danish industry. My goal is to take innovative business collaboration, entrepreneurship and student innovation to new heights by adding international inspiration from environments in Europe and the USA, says the incoming director.

He is certain that many new successful start-ups are hidden in university laboratories and offices. Mads Bang has maintained his connection to the university by supervising several Master’s theses each year.

He has also authored a number of scientific publications on fuel cells and taken out several patents related to his research. His inventions revolve around system concepts and production concepts for the production of fuel cells to improve performance and reduce production costs.

The appointment committee had no doubt that Mads Bang had a unique combination of knowledge about operations and development of companies and the scientific field, making him ideal for the job.

- I am happy and proud that Aalborg University was able to attract Mads Bang. With his research and successful entrepreneurship, he will be able to build the perfect bridge between academic and entrepreneurial environments. I can also feel that he is genuinely passionate about knowledge innovation, says Rector Per Michael Johansen.
