The experienced associate professor receives the award for her ability to make complex legal topics easy to understand and for being appreciative, helpful and seeing her students as equals.

She has done it before. The Study Board for Law has named Marie Jull Sørensen as Teacher of the Year three times. Now the experienced associate professor in consumer law at the Department of Law can add the title Social Sciences Teacher of the Year at the SSH Faculty to her CV.  

Marie Jull Sørensen is delighted with the award as confirmation that her way of teaching makes a difference for the students in Law and Business Law.

- This is a major pat on the back that really motivates me to continue to develop and improve my teaching for the good of the students, says Marie Jull Sørensen. 

Authentic and motivating

Marie Jull Sørensen primarily teaches consumer law and EU Consumer Law in the Master's programmes in Law and Business Law and tort law in the first semester of the Bachelor's programmes in Law and Business Law. In addition, she supervises a number of Bachelor projects and Master’s theses.

She always strives to motivate the students and create the best possible conditions for them to learn as much as possible. As a teacher, she especially emphasizes being authentic and respectful.

- You have to be yourself. In a professional way, of course. It’s also important to respect the students and show that you fundamentally believe that they can learn the subject. And then you have to want to go the extra mile in your preparation, and when the students ask for help in and outside of class, says Marie Jull Sørensen.

Marie Jull Sørensen was selected among the candidates for teacher of the year from the various degree programmes at the faculty. In the recommendation from the Study Board for Law, the students write that she:

Makes complex topics easier to understand

"With her down-to-earth personality, however, Marie manages to make complex topics easier to understand. So we students always come away smarter from a lecture with Marie."

Sees students as equals

"With Marie, the students are greeted by a teacher who sees them as equals, creating a nice atmosphere with space for debate."

Is genuinely interested in the students

"Marie is a passionate person who shows genuine interest in her students and is zealous about sharing her knowledge and experience."
