COVID-19 is highly contagious and particularly dangerous for the elderly and other vulnerable groups in society. The virus has led to restrictions at care centres and in home care, but the quality of existing routines was quickly questioned.
Professor Morten Balle Hansen from the AAU Department of Politics and Society is leading a Nordic research project that will provide knowledge about the elderly care sector's resilience to the pandemic. Researchers must develop a catalogue of ideas for combating the disease. The aim is to answer how the virus spreads in care centres and the actions to be taken when the virus enters.
‘It is said that a society must be known for how it treats its most vulnerable. Therefore, in addition to controlling the virus to protect residents and employees, we should focus on the mental health of the elderly’, says Professor and Head of Research Morten Balle Hansen from the Department of Politics and Society.
The researchers come from Nord University (Norway), the universities of Gothenburg and Borås (Sweden), the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare and Åbo Akademi University (Finland).
The project is carried out by the Center for Organization, Management and Administration (COMA) at the Department of Politics and Society at Aalborg University and is funded by the VELUX FOUNDATIONS and Aalborg University.
